Jubail Island Abu Dhabi is now home to a stunning new art installation

The Seed is a breathtaking kinetic sculpture.

Nestled within the UAE capital, between Yas Island and Saadiyat Island lies Jubail Island. A stunning refuge minutes away from the bustling city centre offering a breathtaking landscape with a wide array of cultural and entertainment destinations. The island which is already home to the Jubail Mangrove Park and Abu Dhabi’s first eco retreat is now adding an art installation to its selection of attractions.

The kinetic art experience that formed the centrepiece of the UAE’s official 49th National Day celebrations has been transformed into an art installation named The Seed. It will be on view to the public at Jubail Island until 30 January.

The imposing, cube-shaped moving sculpture was streamed live on TV and online to millions of people on 2 December 2020 as part of the ‘Seeds of the Union.’ Now guests can experience the unique moving art piece in person, complete with stunning visuals representing an evolution from seed, shoot, and flower to propagation.

A newly created beach area, which looks out onto the sculpture, will safely seat up to 400 people in a relaxed setting.

The site is open from 5pm each day (except Sundays) allowing people to take their seats before sunset. The audio-visual experience will play continuously between 6pm and 8pm and refreshments are available from on-site food trucks.

Tickets are priced at AED 30 for those aged 18 years and above, and AED 15 for children aged seven to seventeen. The ticket provides access to the site and this unique display of light, art and music amid Jubail Island’s majestic mangrove forests. All of the money from ticket sales will be used to fund a conservation programme in the mangroves.

The kinetic illuminated sculpture has been devised by the world-renowned creative director Es Devlin in collaboration with Emirati creatives.
