The acclaimed actor will star in Anton Chekhov’s Ivanov.

Stars fill the London stage. Chris Pine, best known for his role as Captain James T. Kirk in the Star Trek franchise, will make his London theatre debut next summer at the Bridge Theatre. Running from 4 July to 19 September 2026, the Hollywood actor will be taking on the title role in a fresh adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s Ivanov.

Directed and written by Australian Simon Stone, Ivanov will be staged by the London Theatre Company. Chris Pine said: “I’m excited to bring this complex character and story to life and to take part in Simon’s singular creative process”. Simon praised the actor as “uniquely sensitive and brilliantly intelligent”.

Chris Pine hails from Los Angeles, United States. His grandmother was a Hollywood actress, and he grew up in the industry. He studied English at the University of California, Berkeley. He began his career in theatre before moving to film.

The actor’s film credits include the Star Trek reboot series, Wonder Woman, and Wonder Woman 1984. He co-wrote and directed the 2023 mystery comedy, Poolman. He also starred in Into the Woods, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, and The Finest Hours.

Ivanov was first performed in 1887, and follows a troubled landowner whose crumbling marriage drives him to despair. The themes include tragedy with moments of humour. The production reunites the creative team from Simon’s Lady from the Sea, including designer Lizzie Clachan and costume designer Mel Page.

Tickets to see Chris Pine make his London stage debut go on public sale on 24 October through the Bridge Theatre website.
