Russell T Davies’ acclaimed Channel 4 drama is being reimagined for a major stage production at Sadler’s Wells Theatre.

Russell T Davies’ acclaimed drama It’s A Sin is heading to the stage. The much-loved Channel 4 series will be adapted by Rambert, with an 11-day run at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London from 5 to 16 October 2027.

Before arriving in the capital, the production will premiere at Aviva Studios in Manchester from 16 to 27 February 2027, before touring venues across the UK. The London dates mark a major moment for the show, which first captured audiences when it aired in 2021.

Created by Russell T Davies, and set during the 1980s AIDS crisis in the UK, the series followed a group of friends in London as they navigated love, loss, identity and fear during a devastating period in LGBTQ+ history. Its emotional power, standout performances and unflinching storytelling helped spark renewed conversation around HIV, stigma and remembrance.

The original television series starred Olly Alexander, Callum Scott Howells and Omari Douglas, and went on to receive widespread acclaim, including multiple BAFTA nominations. Its legacy lies not only in its awards recognition, but in the way it brought a painful chapter of recent history to a mainstream audience with humanity, humour and heartbreak.

For its stage debut, It’s A Sin will be reimagined by Rambert, the London-based contemporary dance company known for bold, physical storytelling. The production will see Davies serve as executive producer, alongside Pet Shop Boys and Glyn Fussell, co-founder of Sink the Pink and director of Mighty Hoopla. Benoit Swan Pouffer, Rambert’s Artistic Director, will choreograph and direct the show.

While full storyline details have yet to be revealed, the production will be inspired by the original series and will use dance, choreography, and music to explore the story’s emotional force in a new form.

Director Benoit Swan Pouffer said: “This is a story we feel compelled to tell right now, and collaborating with Russell – one of the most powerful storytellers of our time – is incredibly exciting. Together, we’re exploring how dance and choreography can carry urgent, emotional narratives in a visceral way. I can’t wait to share this with audiences, and there is so much more still to come as the work evolves.”

Speaking about the show, Russell T Davies added, “Excitement is rising as this landmark production gets closer and closer. It’s such an honour for me to see It’s a Sin being brought to life by Benoit and the team with passion, joy and respect.”

Tickets to see It’s A Sin live on the London stage at Sadler’s Wells will go on sale from 6 July 2026.
