The Sun and The Moon: Art Inspired by the Celestial has opened at the Saatchi Gallery. Running until 8 September 2026, the exhibition explores how the world’s two most powerful celestial forces have shaped creativity and cultures. Spanning two floors and nine spaces, the exhibition brings together artworks, installations and objects that reveal how artists have responded to the sun and moon.
The Sun and The Moon: Art Inspired by the Celestial is designed to take the viewer on a 24-hour cycle, guiding visitors from dawn through midday and into the night. Established artists and emerging voices sit side by side, creating a dialogue between past and present.
At its heart are two installations: Helios by Luke Jerram presents a monumental sculptural Sun, assembled from over 400,000 images of the solar surface; and teamLab’s Massless Suns and Dark Suns, which is an immersive environment that surrounds and responds to visitors.
The exhibition’s first half celebrates the sun. Learn about early mythologies and belief systems, time, ritual, seasons, and tarot-inspired works. The second half turns to the moon and gives visitors the chance to explore the Apollo missions and the overlooked stories of those who helped shape space exploration. Plus, there’s a chance to discover folklore, dreams and the witching hour.

The Sun and The Moon: Art Inspired by the Celestial brings together a range of artists. The names include Barbara Hepworth, Bridget Riley, David Shrigley, Leonora Carrington, Nancy Holt, Peter Doig, Paula Rego, Yinka Ilori and more.
