V&A will celebrate punk and pop in its 2027 exhibitions.
The V&A has unveiled details of its 2027 exhibition programme, and it looks set to be filled with exciting events. The museum will celebrate music, fashion, design and art, and explores influential stories from Britain to South Asia.
At V&A in South Kensington, the programme begins on 13 March 2027 with Punk to Pop. The immersive exhibition examines the explosion in music, art and fashion between 1972 and 1985. Featuring approximately 300 objects, it includes stage costumes, photography, music videos and designs. The exhibition also includes work from the music groups Eurythmics, Joy Division and Wham!, and explores how they shaped popular culture through a spirit of rebellion.
Opening on 29 May 2027, Sculpture in Clay: British Ceramics 1985 to Now will highlight the growing importance of clay in contemporary sculpture. The artists include Antony Gormley, Edmund de Waal and Clare Twomey. The programme concludes on 18 September with Chintz, a major exhibition tracing the 400-year history of the South Indian cotton fabric. Bringing together treasures from the V&A and the Karun Thakar Collection, it repositions chintz as a significant art form while celebrating the craftsmanship and enduring influence of its makers.
The V&A East Museum will showcase South Asia Now: Fashion. Art. Design, which opens from 24 April. Featuring more than 200 works from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the exhibition will showcase the region’s contemporary creativity and global impact across art, fashion, architecture and design.
As for outside of London, V&A Dundee will host the UK debut of Vivienne Westwood & Jewellery, which opens from 26 March 2027. The exhibition explores the role jewellery played in one of Britain’s most famous fashion houses.
