London lovers, we have some exciting news. We know that the capital is home to world-class museums and galleries. Now, it is set to welcome the London Museum on 28 November 2026, and it will be located in Smithfield Market. The latest details about its food and drink offering have been unveiled, and it looks set to be an exciting experience.

The London Museum, formerly known as the Museum of London, will coincide with the institution’s 50th anniversary. Following a £437 million transformation of the historic General Market building, the museum is set to become a new cultural destination.

Exhibitions

London Museum

Home to a collection of more than seven million objects, the museum will offer visitors an immersive journey through London’s story. Highlights include Banksy’s famous piranha artwork, the bass guitar smashed by The Clash’s Paul Simonon on the cover of London Calling, part of the Whitechapel fatberg, and the silk vest believed to have been worn by King Charles I at his execution.

Spread across three interconnected spaces, the experience begins with Real Time, a covered former street that will serve as the museum’s main entrance, showcasing the city as it exists today. Visitors will then step into Our Time, where guests can enjoy installations, live events, exhibitions, dining experiences and community activities. Below ground, Past Time will showcase the capital’s fascinating history through permanent galleries filled with extraordinary artefacts.

Exhibitions and events will be welcoming a rotating list of curators. The London Museum’s inaugural programme, London Tastes, will explore the city’s rich food culture, from traditional pie-and-mash shops to beloved culinary destinations such as Covent Garden and Brick Lane.

Food and drink

The London Museum will be home to a range of restaurants. Green and Fortune Chef Director Dan Rampat and food curator Robin Gill will lead the food and drink offerings across four destinations. Many of the venues will also have their own street entrances, making them accessible for both museum visitors and the public. The concepts celebrate London’s ever-evolving food culture and draw inspiration from the city’s historic pie shops, oyster bars, late-night cafés, bakery counters and street food scene.

Clerks House at London Museum will be a welcoming all-day dining room. The 140-cover restaurant will celebrate seasonal produce, and dishes will range from the Mutton Stew with barley, root vegetables and fresh herbs to the traditional Billingsgate Sandwich.

Temperance Cocoa Rooms will be a café open daily, and for 24 hours from Thursday to Sunday. Drinks will include hot chocolates, bespoke ginger beer, coffee mocktails and late-night floats. Food will include pastries, toasties, soups, breakfast and lunch sandwiches. The signature tamarind and date-spiced Chelsea Bun pays tribute to the capital’s history as a global trading city.

Bartholomew’s will be a bar serving London-inspired drinks and cocktails by Mr Lyan Studio. Pub food and sharing snacks will be given an upgrade in order to create an elevated experience. The Roost will be a residency space celebrating new culinary talent. The space will be able to accommodate up to 14 guests. Plus, each chef will receive mentoring from names including John Nugent and Robin Gill.

Green and Fortune Chief Executive John Nugent said: “The ambition of London Museum deserves a hospitality offering unlike anything the capital has seen before. Together with Robin Gill, Mr Lyan Studio and our brilliant Green and Fortune team, we’re creating authentic food and drink experiences that celebrate London in every sense – experiences that make dining and drinking not simply part of a museum visit, but a destination in their own right.

Robin Gill said: “At London Museum, the food will be every bit as much a reason to visit as the exhibitions. Working alongside Green and Fortune, we’re creating an experience that captures the energy, diversity and creativity of London, telling the city’s story through its food. We’ll be working with some of London’s finest producers while championing exciting new talent across the capital.”
