The Shoreditch restaurant Counter 71 will reopen as Appalachia
The new concept opens on Wednesday, 3 June 2026.
Guests can enjoy the flavours of South America.
Appalachia will take over the site of Counter 71 in Shoreditch.
The delicious taste of the American South is heading to London. Counter 71 is transforming into Appalachia and will open on Nile Street, Shoreditch. This marks an exciting new chapter for the restaurant and its team. The concept will celebrate the rich flavours of the Appalachian mountains, all with a stylish London twist. Opening on 3 June 2026, here’s what you need to know.
Counter 71 became known for its inventive all-British tasting menus and intimate chef’s-table experience, while the downstairs bar, Lowcountry, has long paid homage to the American South. Now, the entire venue is embracing those Southern influences. Following a three-week refurbishment, Appalachia promises a warm, welcoming atmosphere, the Shoreditch edge, and a soulful dining experience packed with character and flavour.

Diners at Appalachia will be in safe hands. American co-owners Camilla Meshiea and Ryan Sheenan are bringing their vision to life alongside Head Chef Alistair Borer, formerly of Smoking Goat and Nutbourne, who’ll be leading the kitchen. The team will draw inspiration from the Appalachian mountains, which stretch across North America for nearly 2,000 miles from Alabama to Canada. Appalachian food draws from the farm-to-table experience, foraged ingredients, and comforting classics.
The counter dining format will remain, but the menu is getting a seriously tempting refresh. Dishes include Cornbread Madeleines, Curried Crab Omelette, Grilled Poussin with creamy grits, Milk Bread, Rock Oysters, and Smoked Eel with jalapeño devilled eggs. Plus, desserts include Banana Pudding Choux Bun and Summer and Lynchburg Lemonade Sorbet.
