Karla Knowles has announced the opening of two restaurants.
61 Charterhouse Street will showcase fire-led cooking.

London’s dining scene is about to welcome two exciting restaurants. Karla Knowles, the former head chef of the FACT Dining Awards London-winning Kiln, is set to open her first permanent restaurants. Opening this autumn in Farringdon, 61 Charterhouse Street will showcase fire-led cooking. Then, in early 2027, AREE will open in Notting Hill, serving fire-led, Thai-inspired dishes.
Karla is no stranger to London’s restaurant scene. She has worked at some top spots including Petersham Nurseries, Tramshed and Wolf. She later joined the FACT award-winning Kiln, where she was behind the critically acclaimed menu of Thai-inspired claypot dishes, open-fire cooking and seafood.
The first restaurant, 61 Charterhouse Street, is being created in partnership with Romain and Edouard Bourrillon of Maisons Vivantes. The hospitality group is also behind Cocotte, Casa Felicia and Jusu Brothers. Before the restaurant opens, diners will have the chance to enjoy a preview through a series of supper clubs. Running throughout July and August, the KARLA pop-up series includes collaborations with chef and content creator Romany Henry, UK-based sake brand Dream Sake, and food community Sera.

This is just the beginning. We’ve got an incredible line-up of collaborations coming over the next few months, and I genuinely can’t wait to share it all with you.
The second restaurant, AREE, will take over the former E&O site in Notting Hill. Drawing inspiration from Karla’s travels through Bangkok and northern Thailand, the menu will celebrate bold flavours, regional traditions and contemporary influences.
