Let them have Get Baked cake. The bakery brand has gone from a pop-up to a permanent location, and it’s already causing a stir – a four-hour long queue, anyone? Located in Covent Garden, London, it has been created in collaboration with the popcorn brand Godfrey’s.
Founded in Leeds in 2011, Get Baked quickly built a cult following, thanks to its unapologetically indulgent cakes. Rich Myers is the founder behind the concept, which has expanded to Manchester and now London. After years of requests from loyal customers, the dream of a permanent London store has finally come to life. He shared the news of the new opening in the capital with fans on social media, promising a nostalgic concept and plenty of surprises.
The new shop is filled with Get Baked favourites, including the famous Bertha – which had people queuing for up to four hours on opening day. The first 500 customers were promised a free slice of Bertha, but demand was so incredible that even more slices were handed out.
The 24-layer chocolate cake features alternating layers of rich chocolate sponge and silky milk and dark chocolate ganache. Alongside the classic version, visitors can also try limited-edition flavours, as well as an irresistible selection of cookies, brownies, pies, premium pick-and-mix, chocolate bars and freshly popped gourmet popcorn.
Rich said: “So much work has gone into it, and our acquisition of Godfrey’s has made everything seriously exciting, giving the team so much more scope for fun. Super excited to show you all what we’ve been working on.”
