FACT loves food, so we were excited to hear about two food greats coming together to create something new. Andrew Wong, the chef behind the FACT Award-winning A Wong, and Amar Radia, co-founder of Dishoom, are working on a new project. Kong is a new Chinese pub in London that’s set to open in Shoreditch this autumn.
Taking over the former Water Poet site, Kong will bring fresh energy to the neighbourhood. Blending the character of a traditional East London pub with the warmth and flavour of a Chinese kitchen, Kong will be packed with plenty of personality. While details of the menu remain under wraps, expectations are already high, thanks to the team’s credentials.
Guests can look forward to everything from dumplings in the morning, noodles at lunchtime and grilled dishes with a pint in the evening. Plus, the space will span more than 6,000 square feet and boast an 800-square-foot courtyard.
The opening of Kong marks Andrew Wong’s first major new restaurant venture since Kym’s launched in Bloomberg Arcade. Andrew Wong said: “Kong is a Chinese kitchen reflecting our personality, shaped by London, the East End, China and A Wong. Untraditional, instinctive, fearless, all-day cooking.”
Amar Radia added: “The grand East London pub and the Chinese kitchen have both been part of London life for more than 200 years. Kong celebrates that shared heritage while creating something new – a Chinese public house with a warm and generous welcome for everyone.”
