NAKIMUSHI might sound like an unusual name for a restaurant – it means “cry baby” in Japanese, after all. That hasn’t stopped the team behind Dorian, however, as they are set to open NAKIMUSHI in Notting Hill, London. Set to launch in September, it will showcase Japanese cooking, and here’s what to expect.

NAKIMUSHI will bring together two top chefs, Yuji Shimokawa Kelly of Urchin and Robin Kosuge of Robin’s Ramen. The pair will take over a three-storey townhouse, with each floor given its own distinct character. The concept sounds exciting, and has already got our stomachs rumbling.

On the ground floor, Robin will run a ramen bar. Expect his much-loved ramens – lobster, anyone? Bites include hogget skewers with yuzu kosho labneh and oregano, and lobster gyoza with cauliflower and chilli oil. Upstairs, Yuji will oversee the restaurant and bar, offering a broad take on Japanese cooking. Dishes include grilled lobster chazuke with native blue Welsh lobster, and robata-grilled aged Japanese Black Holstein beef with artichoke sauce, beef jus, kimizu, and angel hair fries.

The Dorian team are behind a range of restaurants, which have a firm following and critical acclaim. Located on Talbot Street, Dorian is a Michelin-starred British bistro with a neighbourhood vibe. Eel Sushi Bar is also on the same road, a walk-in-only restaurant with a ten-seat capacity, offering high-quality, well-priced sushi made to order.
