A new bakery, Sarna, has joined the growing collection of Lebanese bakeries in East London. Housed in the renowned cafe Climpson and Sons in Hackney, the new concept will bring freshly baked manouche to London’s foodie scene.
Founded by friends Omar, Tariq and Ryan, Sarna aims to bring a taste of their home in Beirut, Lebanon to East London. While the details are limited, we do know for certain is that it will specialise in freshly baked manouche (a traditional flatbread from the SWANA region). As for the name Sarna, it is often used as part of the Arabic phrase ‘sarna hon’, which loosely translates to ‘we have arrived’.
The co-founder, Omar, is on a mission to encapsulate the very specific and nostalgic feeling Arabs get whilst eating manouche, and put that into his new space, Sarna. Being a foodie himself (as well as a poet, artist and more), his sole aim is to bring a sense of his home Lebanon to London.
The bakery’s launch event will take place on Friday, 19 June 2026, at Climpson and Sons on Broadway Market, from 6pm to 9pm. Food will be provided by Sarna and drinks will be provided by Climpson and Sons.
In an Instagram post about the opening, co-founder Omar said: “Together with my boys, we’re launching Sarna: a Lebanese-London bakery serving manouche and chasing that impossible-to-bottle feeling that comes with it. As much as I miss everyone in Lebanon, I’ve built a home here too. One that keeps giving. One filled with people I love. The excitement is oozing out of us. We can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on. To bring together old flames and new to break bread.”
