A new wagyu restaurant, Wagyu Yakiniku USHIO, is set to open in Fitzroviah. Opening in July, the concept originates in Fukuoka, Japan. Now, the spot will bring late-night wagyu steaks to London.
Taking over the site that used to be Palms of Goa, which closed last year, Wagyu Yakiniku USHIO is based on the Fukuoka restaurant USHIO Haruyoshi Bettei. The head chef from the original restaurant is coming to help launch the London opening. The restaurant will only be open for dinner, and everything will focus on lean cuts of Japanese Akami Wagyu. All the wagyu on offer is shipped from Japan itself, and cooked behind the counter, in true omakase-style.

There will be three main menus available: a seven-course omakase option, a six-course selection focused on wagyu cuts or an à la carte options. As well as the different cuts of Wagyu steaks cooked in front of guests, the menus also platform the Wagyu in a variety of other dishes, including: slow-cooked Wagyu curry, seared tartare, noodles, lean carpaccio and minced Wagyu mixed with creamy Soboro cheese. Desserts wise, the highlight is a fluffy matcha choux bun.
Interior design is yet to be revealed but the place will be rather grand and sleek, similar to some of London’s top omakase restaurants. It will be spread across two floors, both of which are centred around a counter, with a basement that can turn into a private dining space for parties and celebrations.
This new spot is planning to stay open past midnight on weekends too, bringing a renewed, late-night energy to Fitzrovia.
