LAIKA presents Wildwood: The Exhibition opens at the Design Museum on 15 October 2026.
Visitors can see original puppets, costumes, sketches, props and miniature sets from the movie.
The exhibition also explores 20 years of LAIKA films, including Coraline and Kubo and the Two Strings.
The new exhibition reveals the painstaking craft behind the studio’s latest stop-motion adventure.
The London Design Museum has explored the worlds of some of cinema’s most distinctive filmmakers, from Stanley Kubrick and Tim Burton to Wes Anderson. Now, the Kensington museum is turning its attention to stop-motion animation with LAIKA presents Wildwood: The Exhibition.
Opening on 15 October 2026, the exhibition has been created in collaboration with LAIKA, the Oregon-based animation studio behind Coraline, ParaNorman, The Boxtrolls, Kubo and the Two Strings and Missing Link. The new show focuses on the studio’s forthcoming movie, Wildwood, offering visitors a closer look at the craft, technology and imagination required to create its handmade universe.
Visitors will be able to see original puppets, costumes, sketches, props and miniature sets used during production. The exhibition traces the journey from the earliest visual ideas and character designs through to puppet fabrication, scenery construction, animation and cinematography. Interactive installations and audiovisual displays will also explore the work of the artists, designers, model makers and craftspeople involved in producing a feature-length stop-motion film.
Beyond Wildwood, part of the exhibition looks back at two decades of LAIKA. Founded in 2005, the studio has become one of animation’s most recognisable names, with all five of its previous feature films receiving Academy Award nominations for Best Animated Feature. Kubo and the Two Strings also won the BAFTA for Best Animated Film, while Missing Link took home the Golden Globe for Best Animated Film.
The exhibition coincides with the arrival of Wildwood on the big screen. Based on the fantasy novel by The Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy, the film is directed by Travis Knight with a screenplay by Chris Butler. The story follows Prue, voiced by Peyton Elizabeth Lee, as she ventures into a mysterious forest after her baby brother is abducted by a flock of crows. The voice cast also includes Jacob Tremblay, Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali and Angela Bassett.

Wildwood will be part of the 70th BFI London Film Festival before arriving in UK and Irish cinemas on 23 October 2026. The Design Museum exhibition will remain open until 10 January 2027, with adult tickets currently starting from £15.29.
