The rooftop train carriages at Village Underground in London are finally opening their doors to the public – and it’s a moment worth celebrating. For the first time, visitors will be able to step aboard and experience them up close. From 3 July 2026, the terrace will open to the public.

Open Wednesday to Sunday throughout the summer, the terrace marks a major new chapter for Village Underground. Sitting above Great Eastern Street, the famously graffiti-covered Jubilee line carriages have long been one of East London’s most Instagrammable sights. The bold graffiti carries the playful motto: “Let’s adore and endure each other”.

Now, the creative space will be transformed into a rooftop bar with a capacity of 300. Come for the drinks and stay for the pizza. Visitors will be able to enjoy draught beers, signature cocktails and wines, alongside food such as slices from Bad Boy Pizza Society.

Since opening in 2007, the former Victorian warehouse has become one of London’s most popular music venues, hosting DJs, as well as emerging and established artists. Next year, it’s a big one, as the venue will celebrate its 20th anniversary.

Auro Foxcroft, founder and CEO of Village Underground, said: “For nearly 20 years, we’ve had this suntrap spot on the Shoreditch skyline to ourselves, so it’s exciting to finally be able to share it with our audiences and the local community. The train carriages have been part of how we’ve used the space day to day – from working to interviewing artists – and this feels like the natural next step, opening them up and making them part of the space for everyone to enjoy.”
