The venue has teamed up with the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Southbank Centre and the Montreux Jazz Festival have collaborated for the second year in a row for a 2026 residency that celebrates the iconic jazz musician Miles Davis. The three-day residency will centre around the question, ‘What is Jazz Today?’. Running from 13 to 15 March 2026, it explores Miles’ work through this lens.

The event looks at Miles Davis and his work, now a century after his birth. The residency will host a variety of special shows to explore this question. The line-up of artists includes Theo Croker, Children of Zeus, Mercury Music Prize-nominated corto.alto, and more.

Free events will also be part of the residency, including a tribute to D’Angelo, who passed away earlier this year. Plus, there will be an in-conversation event with Celeste, writing workshops, improvisational open jam sessions, and more.

Mark Ball, Artistic Director of the Southbank Centre, said: “The return of the Southbank Centre x Montreux Jazz Festival Residency showcases jazz at its most boundary-pushing and curious. As an ever-evolving form, it brings together artists who are expanding our understanding of jazz. Across the three days, we will welcome a diversity of perspectives and voices, each shaping the conversation around jazz’s future and its forward-looking, collaborative spirit.”

Mathieu Jaton, CEO of the Montreux Jazz Festival, added: “The question ‘What is Jazz Today?’ lies at the heart of both Montreux Jazz Festival and this residency – a celebration of artists who, like Miles Davis, challenge conventions and boundaries, keeping the music alive as a constantly evolving art form. Together, we aim to inspire new generations of musicians and audiences by honouring jazz’s past while amplifying its vibrant, unpredictable future.”
