London is packed with exciting pubs. From historic boozers to trendy cocktail bars, there’s a pub to suit every mood. If you fancy something a little different, the Golden Hinde ship in Southwark is being transformed into a floating pub. Running every Thursday from 5.30pm to 10pm until 24 September 2026, Thirsty Thursdays offers a unique way to enjoy a pint or three.
Visitors can hop aboard the historic ship, grab a drink and soak up the atmosphere as they explore one of London’s most unusual drinking spots. Built in 1973, the Golden Hinde is a full-size reconstruction of the galleon sailed by Sir Francis Drake, who became the first Englishman to circumnavigate the globe. Drake’s voyage was no quick holiday cruise either – it took almost three years, from 1577 to 1580.
Drake wasn’t just an explorer. He was also a sailor, privateer, politician and naval commander. Queen Elizabeth I even knighted him aboard the Golden Hinde in 1581, following his return from his famous voyage. The ship itself later travelled more than 100,000 miles across the seas as a floating museum.
Today, the Golden Hinde is permanently moored at St Mary Overie Dock in Southwark. To celebrate 30 years at its London home, guests can experience the ship in a whole new way. The bar is located on the main deck, and once you’ve got your drink in hand, you’re free to explore the vessel, from the armoury to Drake’s cabin.
Entry is free for Thirsty Thursdays, and no booking is required.
