Stratford is getting a major makeover with Stratford Junction.
There will be a piazza, outdoor exhibitions, art trails, and over 100 public art installations.
It will also feature 1,600 hotel rooms.
Stratford Junction will be set in the former London Olympic site.
Stratford in East London has been the site of several transformations since the 2021 Olympics, from the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to the new V&A East. The area has been in a constant state of growth and regeneration. Now, a new separate development is set to emerge in the form of Stratford Junction.
Part of the former London Olympic coach park will become a cultural destination for arts, performance and immersive theatre. Right by Stratford station, the land will essentially become a whole new cultural neighbourhood. So far, the site has already welcomed old red double decker buses decorated with fun designs by big street artists including Tamp Two, Captain Kris and Tom Blackford.
Proposals from Hallmark Property Group show that they’re hoping to create 1700 square metres of new public space, which will include green areas, a piazza, and places to relax. There’ll be outdoor exhibitions, art trails, and more than 100 public art installations.
Furthermore, there will be two flexible performance venues with a capacity for 1,200 to 4,300 people each, and 20,000 square metres for immersive experiences and exhibitions. There will also be several bars, cafés and restaurants. The hope is that this year-round programme of events, festivals and community activity will transform the site into a new community space, attracting £190m in visitor spending and creating up to 1,500 new jobs.
It will also feature a large number of new flats, with 2,100 shared living homes onsite and 1,600 hotel rooms for any new visitors. Stratford Junction will have three new skyscrapers, ranging from 31 to 47 storeys.
