London’s City Hall is being reimagined as 110 Queen’s Walk. The site by the River Thames, which is located next to Potter’s Field, will be transformed into a lifestyle destination with shops, restaurants and offices.

Originally built in 2002, it was opened by the Queen. Designed by Foster + Partners, the building saw many of the key decisions in the capital made within its walls. At the opening, The Queen said: “This striking new addition to the capital’s skyline is situated amongst some of our best-known landmarks, which, over the years, have come to represent not only London but Great Britain for millions across the globe — the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and the Thames itself.”

110 Queen’s Walk

City Hall was once called a “glass gonad” by the former Prime Minister and Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, and was home to the Greater London Authority’s staff. For the last five years, City Hall has been empty, but it is now being transformed. The new plans have been under construction since 2025, and the main construction work will be completed by summer 2028.

Rooted in sustainability, Gensler Architects, one of the groups behind the project, has released renders of the site, which will see the old glass shell removed and replaced with rounded terraces. Plus, there will be balconies covered in green plants, and outdoor spaces for the public to access.

The building will house a new retail and dining hub, with five spaces available for new cafés, shops and restaurants, alongside the creation of a new food hall. The plans will also see the sunken amphitheatre, The Scoop, transformed into an events and commercial space.
