Uncle Hon’s BBQ will open a permanent restaurant in Hackney Wick in July 2026.
The 80-cover venue will be located above Crate Brewery in Queen’s Yard.
The venue will also host DJ nights, BBQ classes, and collaborations.
The brilliant barbecue concept will launch an 80-cover restaurant above Crate Brewery this July.
Uncle Hon’s BBQ is getting ready to put down permanent roots in East London. The Texan-Asian barbecue concept will open its first standalone restaurant in Hackney Wick this July, following a run of pop-ups and a long-term residency at All My Friends.
The new restaurant will take over the former Silo site above Crate Brewery, bringing an 80-cover dining room to Unit 7 Queen’s Yard. Overlooking the canal, the Hackney Wick address places the concept in one of London’s most creative neighbourhoods, where restaurants, breweries, studios and music venues sit side by side.
Founded by Man Hon Luk, Uncle Hon’s BBQ brings together the traditions of Texas barbecue with the flavours of Hong Kong. Luk developed his understanding of low-and-slow cooking in Austin, where he trained under John Bates at the Michelin-starred Interstellar. After returning to the UK, he launched Uncle Hon’s BBQ, combining smoke, spice, and Asian ingredients in a way that has quickly earned it a loyal following.
The menu will continue to focus on generous barbecue plates and bold flavour combinations, drawing from both Texan technique and Asian influence. The opening also arrives at the right time, with summer in London calling for smoked meats, long lunches and canal-side evenings.
Luk has launched a crowdfunding campaign to help support the move into the permanent site. Funds raised will go towards essential restaurant equipment and infrastructure, helping the team bring the new space to life.

The restaurant will not be limited to food. Drawing on Luk’s background in record shops and DJing, Uncle Hon’s BBQ will become a music-led venue on Friday and Saturday nights. The space will feature a late-night grill menu, guest DJs and live performances, creating a restaurant that moves easily from dinner to after-hours energy.
The Hackney Wick site will also allow the team to host private parties, music events, small exhibitions, chef collaborations, retail for home cooks and barbecue classes. It is a natural fit for the area’s large post-industrial spaces and community-driven spirit.
About the opening, Man Hon Luk said: “I truly believe that if we continue to produce consistently good Asian-inspired Texas BBQ, we can weather any storms ahead. If you’ve enjoyed our food in the past, I can promise you it’s only going to get better. I look forward to seeing you there again and again!”
