Saudi Film Festival 2023 unveils its celebration of cinema

The Dammam festival includes screenings, seminars and more.

Lights, camera, Saudi. Saudi Film Festival has unveiled exciting details about its upcoming festival. Now in its ninth edition, the festival takes place from 4 to 11 May. The event has been organised by Cinema Association and King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra), and looks set to be a showstopper.

Saudi Film Festival’s 2023 takes place at Ithra Center in Dharan, Dammam. This year’s theme is sure to put a smile on your face – it covers comedy films and includes international screenings. Plus, the festival will celebrate cinema pioneers in the kingdom and across the Gulf.

Saudi Film Festival will honour the Bahraini writer Amin Saleh and Egyptian producer Saleh Al-Fawzan. Amin has worked as a film critic, and scriptwriter for TV and film, and translated international films into Arabic. Saleh is famous for his work in Egyptian cinema and produced 34 feature films. His work includes Les Siestes Grenadines.

If you’re a budding creative, then you’ll be excited to hear that Saudi Film Festival includes film and script competitions. During the festival’s awards, there are 20 categories for film competitions, six awards for the not yet produced scripts, and six grants for production market projects.

It’s not just about movie screenings at Saudi Film Festival. The festival will bring together established and emerging talent. Lookout for seminars and workshops, plus networking – okay, mingling – opportunities.

The Saudi Film Festival is not the only film festival in the kingdom. The Red Sea International Film Festival launched in 2019 and is held in Jeddah. The next event is scheduled to take place from 30 November to 9 December.
