Louvre Abu Dhabi announces exciting fifth anniversary celebrations

The blockbuster exhibitions range from Impressionists to Bollywood.

Louvre Abu Dhabi is celebrating its fifth anniversary in a fittingly arty fashion, as it has announced three major exhibitions. We are excited as it includes the region’s largest Impressionist exhibition, Impressionism: Pathways to Modernity, and an exciting line-up of activities as well as events.

Impressionism: Pathways to Modernity

Louvre Abu Dhabi is making artistic history, as it hosts the first international Impressionist exhibition in the region. Impressionism: Pathways to Modernity runs from 12 October 2022 to 5 February 2023, and has been organised in partnership with Musée d’Orsay and France Muséums. If you say the word “impressionist”, it creates an image of respectable artists, but it was originally coined as a term of disapproval by haters. During the exhibition, you can learn about the artistic movement that began in 1860s Paris. Plus, get up close to more than 100 world-class paintings, which we’re expecting to range from Monet to Manet.

Louvre Abu Dhabi Art Here 2022

If you’re a budding artist, check out Louvre Abu Dhabi Art Here 2022. Louvre Abu Dhabi and Swiss watchmaking brand Richard Mille are hosting the second edition of the exhibition and the Richard Mille Art Prize, which runs from November 2022 to February 2023. The exhibition-meets-prize welcomes entries from the UAE and GCC, and you have until 31 July to make your masterpiece. Just make sure it reflects this year’s theme: Icon/Iconic.

Bollywood Superstars

Proving that art isn’t just confined to canvases, Bollywood Superstars celebrates India’s film industry. The exhibition runs from 25 January 2023 to 4 June 2023, and explores how India represents art and civilisation through film. If you thought that Hollywood was the biggest film industry in the world, think again, as India produces more than 1,500 films a year. Learn about the history of Indian cinema, from its beginnings in the 19th century up to the present day Shah Rukh Khan flicks. Look out for the immersive theatre experience, which will run during the exhibition.

Fifth anniversary celebrations

The anniversary season will include a programme of special activities and events, which cover curated talks, concerts, performances, film screenings, workshops and more.

Manuel Rabaté, director at Louvre Abu Dhabi, said: “As we mark our fifth anniversary this November, Louvre Abu Dhabi continues to offer something for everyone with this upcoming season, from exhibitions and new artworks to special events and programming. We remain deeply rooted in our community, committed to our mission of telling stories of cultural connections to the world through our upcoming exhibitions.”

Dr. Souraya Noujaim, management director of Scientific, Curatorial and Collections, added: “Since the inception of Louvre Abu Dhabi, our mission has been to celebrate stories of cultural connections, to help visitors find commonalities through art, across cultures, geographies, and time. We would not be able to achieve this without expanding the narrative through the collection and the partners — from the heart of this region, to Paris, and around the world — continually helping us foster moments of discovery for our visitors as we celebrate our anniversary.”

Happy anniversary, Louvre Abu Dhabi.
