One of the highlights of London’s cultural calendar is back. The Greenwich + Docklands International Festival returns from 21 August to 6 September 2026. The event brings together a dazzling programme of theatre, dance, circus and outdoor performances to public spaces. Best of all, every performance is free to attend.
Welcoming more than 60,000 visitors each year, GDIF has earned a reputation for transforming streets, squares and riverside locations into extraordinary stages. From performances on moving double-decker buses to breathtaking productions staged on the façade of St Paul’s Cathedral, the festival has become famous for creating memorable experiences.

This year’s theme, We Move, celebrates movement, change and human connection through an exciting programme of international and homegrown talent. The festival opens with 360 on 21 August 2026, a striking new work from acclaimed French choreographer Mehdi Kerkouche. Taking over General Gordon Square in Woolwich, the performance will transform the space with design, electronic music and powerful choreography.
Efectos Especiales (Special Effects) arrives at Greenwich Peninsula on 29 and 30 August 2026. Created by Argentinian filmmaker Alejo Moguillansky and choreographer Luciana Acuña, the ambitious spectacle invites audiences into the heart of an action film, complete with dramatic weather effects, cinematic storytelling and a rumbling truck at its centre. Catch The Aunties: The House of Masks by Oluwatosin Omotosho in Beresford Square on 31 August. The dance-theatre production celebrates the strength, humour and influence of West African aunties.

Greenwich Fair will once again fill the borough with family-friendly entertainment on 22 and 23 August 2026. Dancing City takes over Stratford on 5 September 2026 with an inspiring showcase of contemporary dance performed in unexpected locations.
