The 360-degree projection-mapped concert experience arrives in London this July.

Following a hugely successful UK debut at Manchester Cathedral, LUMINISCENCE is heading to London this summer. Opening at Westminster Cathedral in July for a limited run, the 360-degree immersive concert experience will use projection mapping, music and storytelling to celebrate the history of London and one of its most important landmarks.

The experience will be narrated by internationally acclaimed British actor Hugh Bonneville, best known for his roles in Paddington and Downton Abbey. Bonneville will voice a specially commissioned script by BAFTA and Olivier Award-winning writer Tim Whitnall, guiding audiences through a story shaped by architecture, faith, history and the cultural identity of the capital.

LUMINISCENCE London

LUMINISCENCE combines large-scale video mapping with theatrical orchestral arrangements and live music from the Lux Aeterna choir. The programme will feature works by some of classical music’s most celebrated composers, including Beethoven, Verdi, Debussy, Vivaldi and Bach. The result is designed to be both cinematic and deeply atmospheric, placing audiences at the centre of a concert experience that moves across sound, light and space.

The setting is central to the experience. Designed by John Francis Bentley and lined with more than a hundred varieties of marble, Westminster Cathedral is regarded as one of Britain’s most architecturally significant buildings. For LUMINISCENCE, its domes, mosaics and columns will become part of the performance, with projections moving across the cathedral’s vast interiors.

The production will also digitally bring to life parts of the cathedral that were never completed. During its original construction, insufficient funds meant that areas of the mosaiced domes, ceilings and upper columns remained unfinished. Using advanced digital modelling and historical research, LUMINISCENCE will allow audiences to imagine how these spaces may have appeared if the original vision had been fully realised.

Beyond the spectacle, the event will also support the cathedral’s long-term preservation. A portion of every ticket sold will go directly towards the upkeep of Westminster Cathedral, helping to protect the landmark for future generations.
