Abu Dhabi unveils its first vertiport for flying taxis
More vertiports will be developed in the upcoming months to prepare for the launch of air taxis in 2026.
We’ve all been waiting for flying taxis to take flight in the UAE. And while we’re still years away from the official launch, excitement is in the air as Abu Dhabi has unveiled its first operational vertiport.
Dubbed as a game-changer in the world of sustainable urban mobility, the vertiport was revealed at DRIFTx — an event held in Abu Dhabi, showcasing the latest innovations in transport. This vertiport, designed for vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOLs), marks a significant milestone in the capital’s journey towards adopting advanced technology and sustainable transportation solutions. Constructed in compliance with the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), the temporary vertiport facility also proves Abu Dhabi’s commitment to becoming a global leader in eVTOL infrastructure.
Marking the unveiling of this vertiport in Yas Island as a crucial step, Abu Dhabi’s plans to develop one of the world’s most advanced sectors for eVTOLs by 2026 are well underway. The capital’s Smart and Autonomous Vehicle Industry (SAVI) is poised to flourish as a result of this achievement. It also provides a thriving environment for innovation and collaboration in the field of autonomous transportation.
