UAE mourns the loss of Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan

The leader passed away in the early hours of 27 July.

The Representative of the Ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, passed away in the early hours of Thursday, 27 July. Reports say he was suffering from a health problem before his passing. The news of the respected leader’s demise has been met with an outpouring of grief and condolences from people across the UAE and beyond.

The UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan mourns the loss of his brother. Following Sheikh Saeed’s passing, the Presidential Court issued a statement, “In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. With hearts faithful to God’s decree and destiny, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan mourns his late brother, H.H. Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Representative of the Ruler of Abu Dhabi, who passed away today.”

As news of his passing broke, the Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, was among the first to express his grief. Paying tribute to the departed leader, Sheikh Hamdan took to social media and shared a prayer, “O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, heal him, pardon him, honour his descent, widen his entrance, wash him with water, ice and cold, and purify him from sins as purified clothes.”

The Presidential Court has also declared three days of mourning starting today, Thursday, 27 July until Saturday, 29 July. Flags will also be flown at half mast during the three-day mourning period as the UAE Royal family and the nation grieves Sheikh Saeed’s loss.

Sheikh Saeed was born in 1965 in Al Ain. He was appointed as the Representative of the Ruler of Abu Dhabi in June 2010 and held several significant positions within the government throughout his distinguished career. He also served in the office of the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. His contributions to the nation’s development and prosperity will be remembered and cherished by all.
