Andrew Lloyd Webber’s record-breaking musical heads back to Marina Bay Sands from 29 October to 15 November 2026.
Few musicals have the staying power of CATS The Musical. More than four decades after its debut, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s feline phenomenon is still pulling audiences into its strange, stylised and unmistakably theatrical world. This autumn, Singapore gets another chance to step into that universe, as CATS The Musical returns to Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands for a limited run from 29 October to 15 November 2026.
Adapted from T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the musical first premiered at London’s New London Theatre in 1981 before becoming one of the longest-running productions in both West End and Broadway history. Since then, it has been staged in more than 54 countries, translated into 23 languages and seen by more than 77 million people worldwide, cementing its status as one of the most recognisable titles in musical theatre.
Part of the show’s lasting appeal lies in how distinctive it feels. CATS The Musical does not follow the usual musical theatre formula. Instead, it drops audiences into the world of the Jellicle cats, where music, movement and visual spectacle do much of the storytelling. The production features the magical score composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber. He is behind The Phantom of the Opera, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, and Starlight Express. The show includes the classic and emotional song “Memory.” Paired with a larger-than-life set, beautifully designed costumes and electric choreography, CATS The Musical promises not to disappoint.
The original creative team also remains a major part of the musical’s legacy, with design by John Napier, choreography by Gillian Lynne and direction by Trevor Nunn helping shape a production that has influenced generations of stage shows. It is theatrical fantasy at its most unabashed, and that is exactly why it still resonates.
The musical also inspired a 2019 film adaptation directed by Tom Hooper, bringing the Jellicle world to the big screen with a star-studded cast. The movie featured Francesca Hayward, Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Hudson, Idris Elba, Taylor Swift, James Corden, Rebel Wilson and Jason Derulo.
