Roald Dahl’s beloved tale heads to Sands Theatre from 19 May to 14 June 2026.

The Lion City’s theatre calendar is shaping up to be a sweet one. Roald Dahl’s scrumdiddlyumptious Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is heading to Sands Theatre in Singapore, bringing Roald Dahl’s much-loved tale to the city for a limited run. Making its Singapore debut from 19 May to 14 June 2026, the musical promises a colourful journey into the world of Willy Wonka, complete with golden tickets, chocolate rivers and plenty of pure imagination.

Based on Dahl’s globally adored novel, the story follows young Charlie Bucket, a kind-hearted boy from a humble family who dreams of something bigger. When Willy Wonka, the world’s most mysterious chocolatier, announces that five golden tickets have been hidden inside his chocolate bars, children everywhere begin the hunt. Charlie’s luck changes when he finds one of the coveted tickets, earning him a once-in-a-lifetime invitation to step inside Wonka’s extraordinary chocolate factory.

Audiences can expect a high-energy production packed with immersive visuals, mischievous Oompa-Loompas and eye-catching stagecraft. From dazzling sets to playful choreography, the musical brings Dahl’s imaginative world to life on stage, while keeping the story’s familiar mix of humour, heart and mischief intact.

The score will also strike a nostalgic note. Songs from the classic 1971 film, including “Pure Imagination,” “The Candy Man,” and “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket,” feature alongside original music by Grammy and Tony Award winners Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, the creative duo behind Hairspray and Mary Poppins Returns. The result is a musical that blends childhood memories with fresh theatrical flair.
