Hanoi Story Bar pairs Vietnamese-inspired beverages with an easygoing setting at Concourse Skyline.

Vietnamese-inspired restaurants are aplenty in Singapore, but rather than focus on the cuisine’s most familiar offerings, Hanoi Story Bar instead channels its focus towards celebrating the country’s home-brewed liquors. Located at the Concourse Skyline along Beach Road, the bar and brewery is a social space where groups can linger over gastropub fare while discovering the best from Vietnam’s evolving distilleries.

The concept, first launched in July this year, is a relatively new addition to Singapore’s culinary landscape by co-founder Flin Lee, a jewellery and streetwear designer who is expanding his portfolio into the dining realm for the first time. Flin is also a co-founder of Tokyo Brew Lab — a café housed on the same premises as Hanoi Story Bar and operates only during the day.

Hanoi Story Bar Sweetheart Sochu

As its name suggests, the bar takes its cues from Hanoi’s lively social culture, where eating and drinking are rarely formal affairs but occasions for spirited gatherings. The relaxed atmosphere of Hanoi Story Bar also makes it a fitting setting for large group events ranging from networking evenings to wellness gatherings.

On the drinks menu, diners can find a selection of signature craft cocktails prepared with ingredients and spirits sourced from Vietnam, including sake by Mùa Craft Saké, the acclaimed distillery specialising in flavoured rice wine. Other tipples include Saigon Story craft beer and Baigur Gin. These can be paired with Hanoi Story Bar’s charcoal-grilled skewers and bar bites. For a heartier meal, the bar also offers a selection of Japanese sando sandwiches loaded with scrambled egg, wagyu beef patties, and pork katsu.

Hanoi Story Bar yakitori

Rather than attempting to recreate the flavours of Hanoi, this new bar appears more interested in capturing its social rhythm, with dishes and drinks shared across the table, and an atmosphere that becomes livelier as the evening progresses. For those who associate Hanoi with steaming bowls of noodles, roadside beers, and long evenings spent watching the city go by, the bar offers a Singaporean interpretation of that same ambience. And perhaps that is the real story here: while we may not be able to teleport ourselves to Vietnam after work, we can at least get a little closer with a drink in hand.
