Opening for stays from April, Varel Singapore, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, lands on the former Selegie Centre site with 128 rooms, a rooftop bar and a neighbourhood-first approach to the city.
Singapore is a city of skyline statements and storied streets, where cultural quarters sit comfortably alongside cutting-edge architecture. For travellers who like their hotel with a sense of place, Varel Singapore, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, is a new name to note. Now open for bookings ahead of its April debut, the design-forward property promises a chic base in the Selegie neighbourhood, with curated experiences that encourage guests to explore beyond the usual landmarks.
The location comes with a backstory that feels distinctly Singaporean. The hotel occupies the former Selegie Centre site, a building constructed in 1985, in an area that once served as a transport hub during the 1950s and 60s. Over time, the district evolved into a lively pocket of the city shaped by cafés, creative campuses and local hangouts. First envisioned in 2019, the transformation has finally taken form, reframing a familiar address as a new hospitality destination.
Inside, Varel leans into Southeast Asian heritage and craftsmanship without slipping into theme. Expect warm textures, handcrafted details and layered finishes that create a space that feels both contemporary and comforting. Thoughtful touches like artisanal mugs, textiles and tucked-away nooks add personality, making the public areas as inviting as the rooms.
Accommodation spans 128 keys, ranging from standard rooms to Varel Club Rooms. Dining is central to the experience, led by Hathaway Autograph, an all-day venue blending Southeast Asian flavours with British-inspired accents. Vernacular Coffee offers a caffeine fix with in-house-roasted beans, while the rooftop Saga Bar takes top billing, serving cocktails inspired by Southeast Asian influences alongside city views.

Up top, guests can also make the most of the rooftop pool with panoramic vistas, or stay on track at the in-house fitness centre. For a Singapore stay that pairs design, dining and neighbourhood energy, Varel Singapore is shaping up to be a smart new address.
