Singapore has no shortage of memorable events, but if you’re looking for a cinematic experience that goes beyond a regular movie screening, Interstellar – Live is one to put on your calendar.
Christopher Nolan’s 2014 space epic returns to the big screen in Singapore for one night only on Saturday, 31 October. This time, Interstellar will be accompanied by a full live orchestral performance of Hans Zimmer’s iconic score at The Star Theatre, transforming the screening into a concert-style cinematic experience.
The Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, a Singapore-based ensemble, will perform the music live and has performed across numerous concert programmes and musical productions. Conducted by Martin Gellner, with Charles Andrews on the organ, this performance brings an ambitious soundtrack to life.
The organ is central to Interstellar’s sound. Hans Zimmer famously used the instrument to create the score that’s built around the historic 1926 four-manual Harrison & Harrison organ at London’s Temple Church.
For Interstellar – Live, the orchestra will perform in sync with the film, making the music an integral part of the experience rather than a soundtrack playing in the background. Running for approximately 200 minutes, including a 20-minute intermission, the screening will take audiences through wormholes, planets and the far reaches of space, with Hans Zimmer’s score performed live throughout.
Interstellar follows Joseph Cooper, a former NASA pilot played by Matthew McConaughey, who leaves his children behind to join a mission through a mysterious wormhole near Saturn, searching for a new planet capable of sustaining human life. Alongside scientists Brand, Romilly and Doyle, he encounters worlds where extreme gravity distorts time, forcing him to confront the emotional cost of exploration. The film received five Academy Award nominations and won Best Visual Effects, while the star-studded cast includes Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Sir Michael Caine and Casey Affleck.
Christopher Nolan’s other acclaimed films include Memento, The Prestige, The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Dunkirk, Tenet, the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer and The Odyssey.
Tickets for Interstellar – Live in Singapore range from S$78 to S$188, depending on seating category. With only one performance on 31 October, tickets are likely to be in demand.
