Michael Jackson remains one of the most influential performers in music history, and now his songs, choreography and creative vision are heading to Asia. MJ The Michael Jackson Musical will open at the Sands Theatre in Singapore for a limited season in August 2027.
Created by Tony Award-winning director and choreographer Christopher Wheeldon OBE and two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage, the production has already enjoyed successful runs on Broadway and London’s West End. It has also reached more than eight million audience members worldwide.
Rather than simply revisiting Jackson’s greatest hits, the musical transports audiences to 1992 as the King of Pop prepares for his ambitious Dangerous World Tour. The story unfolds behind the scenes, offering a closer look at the ideas, rehearsals and creative decisions that shaped one of the most famous concert tours of the era.
Naturally, the music plays a starring role. The production features more than 25 Michael Jackson songs, including “Beat It”, “Billie Jean”, “Man In The Mirror”, “Smooth Criminal” and “Thriller”. Alongside the soundtrack, the production recreates Jackson’s dance vocabulary through large-scale choreography and theatrical staging.
Wheeldon serves as both director and choreographer and has helped transform Jackson’s performance style for the theatre. The original Broadway production received 10 Tony Award nominations in 2022 and won four, including Best Choreography and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for Myles Frost.
Tickets will be released in several stages. UOB Priority Access via Klook begins on 28 September 2026 at 3pm, with UOB cardholders receiving 20 per cent off all ticket categories and performances. Waitlist subscribers receive priority access from 10am on 29 September, alongside the UOB presale through Klook, Marina Bay Sands and SISTIC.
