Pokémon fans, get ready to catch ’em all. The Pokémon World Championships are officially heading to Singapore for the first time, with the prestigious tournament taking place from 13 to 15 August 2027.
Singapore EXPO will host the three-day event, welcoming some of the world’s best Pokémon players for the climax of the competitive season. The announcement was made by Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and chief executive officer of The Pokémon Company, during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco.
The annual competition sits at the top of the Pokémon Championship Series calendar and sees elite players from around the world battling for coveted World Champion titles. Competitors will go head-to-head across the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Pokémon Video Game Championships and Pokémon GO, putting months of qualifying and competitive play to the ultimate test. Previous World Championships have combined competitive matches with activities, merchandise, community experiences and opportunities for fans to celebrate one of the world’s most recognisable entertainment franchises.
The World Championships were last held in the region in Yokohama, Japan, in 2023, making the 2027 tournament its first return to Asia in four years. Singapore will also become only the fourth destination outside the United States to host the World Championships.
Ng Sim Lim said: “Hosting a championship of this scale is a significant milestone for Singapore and reinforces Singapore Expo’s evolution into a true entertainment hub. While Singapore EXPO will serve as the tournament’s main home, the action will move across the city for its finale. Championship Sunday, which takes place on 15 August 2027, will be held at Singapore Indoor Stadium, giving the biggest matches of the weekend an arena setting as the remaining competitors battle to become World Champions.
Details surrounding spectator access and ticketing for the Singapore tournament have not yet been announced.
