What began as an exercise to customise a Timberland icon has given rise to a whole new collection of Heritage Clogs.

Over five decades since its creation, the Timberland 6-Inch Boot is finally taking a day off from its blue-collar sensibilities with the launch of the Heritage Clog. The instantly recognisable rugged footwear is now officially reimagined in a more laid-back direction with this new collection of slip-on silhouettes that pare down the brand’s signature elements to their bare essentials.

This new style is part of Timberland’s ongoing journey to revisit its archives for inspiration, and arrives at a time when the brand is more famously known for blurring the lines between outdoor utility and everyday fashion. Those in the know would likely find the appearance of the Heritage Clog to be familiar. After all, it bears a strong resemblance to the trendy move to slice off the uppers of the brand’s 6-Inch Boot to create something considerably easier to step into.

    Timberland Heritage Clog Brown

Casual as it may seem, the Heritage Clog very much carries the character of Timberland’s workwear heritage, with its substantial lugged outsole and chunky proportions. Designed with comfort in mind, the footwear features a premium leather upper, a ReBOTL™ fabric lining made with at least 50 per cent recycled plastic, an EVA midsole, and a removable Anti-Fatigue footbed.

    Timberland Heritage Clog Cement Gray

Another piece of Timberland’s history woven into this new design is the revival of its Cement Gray colourway first introduced in the 1990s. The hue is particularly fitting for the Heritage Clog, given how Timberland transitioned from its image as a functional footwear brand into a household name in streetwear at the time. The Heritage Clog will also be released in All-Black and Timberland’s traditional shades of Brown and Wheat.

Ultimately, this new collection is less about replacing the 6-Inch Boot than showing just how its DNA can inevitably evolve. The original boot may be built to withstand harsh New England weather. But the Heritage Clog is built for something rather different: slipping on, heading out and getting on with the day. It may have lost the laces and the ankle, but the attitude remains firmly intact in the zeitgeist.

The Timberland Heritage Clog is now available online in selected regions and retailers.
