With the Petronas Twin Towers outside its windows and Kuala Lumpur’s leading attractions within easy reach, Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur provides an assured base for exploring the Malaysian capital.
The Petronas Twin Towers have always held a peculiar allure for me. I remember watching the 1999 film Entrapment, in which Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones cling to the exterior of what were the tallest buildings in the world, while orchestrating an elaborate robbery timed to coincide with the millennium computer changeover. Decades later, I am sleeping in their shadow at Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
The hotel opened in July 2018 as the brand’s first urban property in Malaysia, joining Four Seasons Resort Langkawi and establishing a city counterpart to its luxe island retreat. It occupies part of a 65-storey mixed-use tower containing 209 hotel rooms and suites and private residences.
Reception sits on the sixth floor, reached via a discreet ground-level entrance. The elevated arrival removes guests from the traffic and humidity of Jalan Ampang, although the layout feels more residential than theatrical. Inside, contemporary furniture, gleaming stone and Southeast Asian artworks establish an atmosphere that is cosmopolitan rather than distinctly Malaysian.
Luxurious Living
Our Club Premier Park-View Room on the 13th floor offers comfortable skyline living without unnecessary embellishment. The room places a sitting area beside floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking KLCC Park and its fountains. Club accommodation also includes access to the Executive Club Lounge, where breakfast, afternoon tea, evening cocktails and all-day refreshments are served.
The bed is satisfyingly bouncy, dressed with down duvets and pillows that absorb tired bodies after a day spent navigating Kuala Lumpur’s heat. A pillow menu, cotton bathrobes, slippers and a Japanese-style washlet toilet add further comfort, while the full marble bathroom features twin vanities and a deep bathtub.
Technology has been integrated without dominating the space. Bedside panels manage the lighting and curtains, and a Lavazza coffee machine accompanies a discreet refrigerated minibar.
Housekeeping is similarly thorough. Amenities arrive in tiered tiffin boxes filled with sweet treats, while cables are organised, personal belongings are handled carefully, and the room is restored without appearing disturbed. It is this quiet attentiveness that defines the stay, showcasing the little luxuries associated with the Four Seasons brand.
Destination Dining
Curate is the hotel’s energetic all-day restaurant, where an open-kitchen format and floor-to-ceiling windows frame the nightly KLCC fountain show. Jets of water rise in shifting colours as the Petronas Twin Towers stretch upwards beyond the glass, giving dinner a ready-made sense of occasion.
The buffet travels widely. Sushi, sashimi and nigiri sit alongside Malaysian curries, Indian favourites, spicy noodle soups and live grills where lobster is cooked to order. The choice is impressive, and the strongest dishes are those prepared at the live stations, where heat, seasoning and timing remain under better control.
Breakfast is equally extensive. Yellow watermelon and tropical jackfruit give way to dim sum, noodle soup, eggs, laminated pastries and freshly baked bread spread with truffle butter. It is possible to eat sensibly, but the restaurant makes restraint unnecessarily difficult.
For greater focus, Yun House is the standout. The MICHELIN-selected Cantonese restaurant sits above KLCC Park in a high-ceilinged dining room filled with pops of bold colour and textured fabrics. Its pork-free menu specialises in seafood, dim sum and roasted meats, with signatures including Beijing-style duck, crystal prawn dumplings and pan-fried Musang King durian layer cake. Century egg and jellyfish provide briny, textural contrasts, while the roasted duck arrives beneath brittle, lacquered skin. The room feels sleek and sultry, offering an intimacy that can be difficult to find in bustling KLCC.
Bar Trigona takes a similarly local approach to cocktails. Malaysia is explored through ingredients such as trigona honey, Liberica coffee, pandan, roselle and native fruits, resulting in drinks that feel rooted in place rather than created solely for visual impact.
Just off the lobby, The Lounge hosts afternoon tea with delicate pastries, artisanal blends and live piano music. For another change of scene, Nobu Kuala Lumpur resides in the connected Shoppes at Four Seasons Place, bringing Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s Japanese-Peruvian signatures to the same complex.
Rest And Relaxation
The outdoor infinity-style pool extends along the side of the building, flanked by palms, submerged loungers and six private cabanas. At 25 metres long, it is suitable for laps, although most guests appear content to float beneath views of the neighbouring towers. There is also a children’s splash pool and a separate rejuvenation pool.
Poolside service is relaxed but responsive. Cassava chips arrive as a simple snack, providing me with an unexpected hit of nostalgia for childhood days on the beaches of Mombasa, where we would cover them with chilli and lime.
The adjoining fitness centre operates around the clock and offers cardio machines, free weights and resistance equipment beside windows overlooking KLCC Park. Steam rooms, saunas and showers make it practical for both serious workouts and pre-departure freshening up.
The spa has eight treatment rooms and combines contemporary skincare with Malaysian wellness traditions. Our treatment uses a local rattan massage tool, warmed herbal compresses and therapeutic oil to ease muscle tension. The rolling pressure is firm without becoming uncomfortable, producing a welcome heaviness in the limbs that lasts well beyond the treatment room.
The Verdict
Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur succeeds because it understands its role as both a retreat and a gateway. It provides the calm, space and dependable service associated with the brand, yet places guests directly beside the sights that define modern Kuala Lumpur.
The location could hardly be improved. The hotel overlooks the 20-hectare KLCC Park beside the Petronas Twin Towers and connects directly to its own shopping centre: Shoppes at Four Seasons Place. Suria KLCC and the city’s rapid transit network are also within walking distance. Kuala Lumpur Tower, the Forest Eco Park and Chinatown are a short drive away, while Batu Caves can be reached without sacrificing an entire day to travelling across the capital.
Service is superb throughout. Bell staff, restaurant teams, spa therapists and housekeepers greet guests with knowledge and genuine warmth, without allowing formality to become stiffness.
The hotel’s design may not capture Malaysia as vividly as its restaurants and cocktails do, but the location, generous rooms and excellent facilities compensate. For first-time visitors in particular, few luxury hotels make Kuala Lumpur quite so accessible.
