Sister Act: The Musical brings some soul to Abu Dhabi 

Tickets are available now for the much-loved comedy.

Rejoice, Sister Act: The Musical is coming to The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi. Taking place from 6 to 8 June, the musical is based on the much-loved 1992 film, Sister Act, which starred Whoopie Goldberg.  

Sister Act: The Musical will be performed by Abu Dhabi’s Choral Group. Established in 1977, the group brings together 15 nationalities and has put on more than 75 shows. Now, it will be showcasing its talent in the upcoming musical. 

Based on the film, the musical follows Deloris Van Cartier. After she witnesses a crime, she seeks refuge in a convent. The former nightclub singer has to disguise herself as a nun – with hilarious results. On the way, she transforms the choir from a traditional group to singing sensations. The story covers themes of friendship, redemption, and the power of music to bring people together.

The original production of Sister Act: The Musical has been performed on Broadway and in the West End. The songs include Here Within These Walls, Lady in the Long Black Dress and Raise Your Voice.

The film version of Sister Act also starred Maggie Smith, Kathy Najimy and Wendy Makkea. The film was so successful, a sequel, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, was released. The sequel sees Deloris help the nuns who need to save an old school. Also, it has been reported that a third film is in the works with Disney+.
