In celebration of International Museum Day, visitors will be granted free entry on Sunday, 18 May.

If you’ve been itching to check out the magnificent Expo City Dubai or Louvre Abu Dhabi, then it’s time to mark your calendars. On 18 May, which also happens to be International Museum Day, the cultural hubs are opening their doors wide open with free entry for all UAE residents. So, why not take advantage of this incredible opportunity?

Expo City Dubai

In honour of International Museum Day, Expo City Dubai is opening its doors to the public with free access to the Expo 2020 Museum and Garden in the Sky on 17 and 18 May. From the city’s historic bid to host the World Expo to the challenges and triumphs of staging a global event during a pandemic, visitors can relive the magic of Expo 2020 through immersive displays, with beloved mascots Rashid and Latifa making a nostalgic appearance from 2pm to 6pm.

To mark the occasion, guests can also enjoy access to Alif, Terra, and Vision pavilions for just AED 25. Tickets are available online from 14 May and at Expo City box offices. Also free for the weekend is Garden in the Sky, offering panoramic views from a 55-metre rotating platform.

Louvre Abu Dhabi

This is your chance to explore the prestigious art museum located on Saadiyat Island without spending a single dirham. Usually, Louvre Abu Dhabi offers free entry to certain groups like school children, seniors, teachers and those with disabilities, but on International Museum Day, it’s free for everyone. Bring your valid Emirates ID, show it at the ticket desk, and voila – you’re in!

Prepare to be blown away by the diversity of the exhibitions at the Louvre Abu Dhabi. This place is a treasure trove of art and culture, showcasing masterpieces from around the globe. The pristine white domed space itself is a work of art, serving as a breathtaking backdrop to the awe-inspiring collections on display. You won’t want to miss this chance to immerse yourself in such artistic brilliance.

The Louvre will remain open until 8.30pm, which means you have more time to wander through the galleries, explore the exhibitions and maybe even find your new favourite artist. The Dome of Light, a true architectural marvel, will remain open until midnight, as will the restaurants. Just remember to book your table in advance to secure your spot.
