Velodrome Abu Dhabi is set to redefine cycling in the UAE with the country’s first indoor UCI Category 1 track and a rooftop cycling circuit on Hudayriyat Island.
Abu Dhabi continues to strengthen its position as a global sports and active lifestyle destination. From world-class attractions like Surf Abu Dhabi to an expanding network of international sporting events, the capital is investing heavily in the future of sport. The latest addition to this growing portfolio is Velodrome Abu Dhabi, a landmark project set to transform cycling in the region.
Scheduled to open in late 2026, Velodrome Abu Dhabi will be the UAE’s first indoor velodrome and the Middle East’s first UCI Category 1 indoor cycling track, creating a world-class venue for professional athletes, cycling enthusiasts, and community riders alike. It is being developed on Hudayriyat Island, which is already home to popular sporting and fitness attractions.
For those unversed, a velodrome is a purpose-built cycling arena designed specifically for track cycling. It features a steeply banked oval track that allows riders to maintain high speeds while navigating corners safely. Track cyclists use fixed-gear bicycles without brakes, competing in a variety of sprint and endurance events.
Velodrome Abu Dhabi will feature a UCI Category 1 indoor cycling track. With seating for more than 3,500 spectators, it will be capable of hosting major international competitions while also providing training and development spaces for athletes of all levels. In addition, the facility will offer community-focused cycling and fitness amenities, creating an inclusive environment for both recreational riders and aspiring professionals.

One of the most innovative features of this new development is its 600-metre rooftop cycling track. Connected to ground level via a spiralling ramp, the elevated route will wrap around the building, offering cyclists stunning panoramic views of Hudayriyat Island and the Abu Dhabi skyline.
Additionally, it is expected to feature a wide range of world-class facilities designed to support cyclists of all levels. The venue will include athlete support and recovery facilities, professional training environments, cycling services and maintenance areas, community cycling programs, and dedicated fitness and wellness amenities.
By offering a combination of training, recreation, and community-focused facilities, Velodrome Abu Dhabi will further strengthen the UAE’s growing cycling culture and position Abu Dhabi as a leading sports destination.
