The team behind Marmellata and Barbassi is opening Lucky 2000 Abu Dhabi, a new Mina Zayed doughnut shop inspired by Italian zeppole and local UAE flavours.
The team behind FACT award-winning Marmellata and beloved neighbourhood eatery Barbassi is preparing to launch Lucky 2000. Lucky 2000 is a new doughnut shop in Abu Dhabi that will put a local spin on the classic Italian zeppole.
Set to open in Mina Zayed this summer, Lucky 2000 Abu Dhabi will serve freshly fried doughnuts inspired by both Italian traditions and the capital’s food culture. If the success of Marmellata and Barbassi is anything to go by, this could become one of the most talked-about new restaurant openings in Abu Dhabi.
Lucky 2000 is Marmellata’s love letter to the Italian zeppole. Located in Mina Zayed, the concept focuses on simple “nostalgic pleasures,” featuring light, golden doughnuts fried fresh to order and paired with strong, sweet black tea. Described as “doughnuts, but Abu Dhabi”, the concept takes inspiration from the Mina neighbourhood and reimagines the traditional Italian treat through a distinctly local lens.
Lucky 2000 comes from the team behind Marmellata and Barbassi, two of Abu Dhabi’s most popular independent restaurants. The team has built a loyal following thanks to its community-focused approach, and the new Mina Zayed venture promises to bring the same charm to the city’s growing food scene. The opening marks the group’s third concept and adds another exciting name to the list of anticipated new restaurants in Abu Dhabi.
The menu at Lucky 2000 Abu Dhabi centres around Mina-style doughnuts, with flavours inspired by the UAE and the surrounding neighbourhood. Expect creations featuring pistachio, saffron, gahwa, zaatar, orange blossom and ricotta, alongside strong, black, sweet tea.
This week’s flavour is cardamom, featuring golden Italian doughnuts tossed in fragrant cardamom sugar and filled with vanilla mascarpone cream. Sold in portions of five for AED 40, the doughnuts offer a modern take on the classic Italian zeppole.
For now, there is no official opening date and no traditional soft launch planned. Instead, the founders describe the concept as simply frying dough, welcoming passersby and creating small moments of joy in Min Zayed. More details, including the full menu and opening date, are expected to be announced soon.
With Marmellata and Barbassi already among Abu Dhabi’s most-loved independent eateries, expectations are understandably high for Lucky 2000 Abu Dhabi.
