teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi will launch on Saadiyat Island

Visit the pop-up experience for a sneak preview.

Abu Dhabi, you are in for a cultural treat. The capital has unveiled plans for teamlab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, a one-of-a-kind, multisensory art experience. The new venue will be located in Saadiyat Cultural District and is set to open in 2024.

We are excited, as teamlab Phenomena Abu Dhabi has dubbed itself as the home for infinite curiosity, and aims to be a philosophical, inspirational place. Spanning a massive 17,000 square meters, it will be an immersive space and interacting with the art work is positively encouraged.

If two years sounds like a long time to wait, we have some good news: you can get a sneak preview of what to expect. A pop-up experience is open at Mamsha Al Saadiyat and runs daily from 24 June to 17 July, from 10am to 11pm.

The new initiative has been put together by The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi and Miral, which manages cultural, leisure and entertainment landmarks in Abu Dhabi. The Tokyo-based art collective, teamLab, have joined the collaboration, having previously worked with the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney.

Toshiyuki Inoko, founder of teamLab said: “It is a great honour for us to be able to open teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi in the Saadiyat Cultural District of Abu Dhabi, a world-leading, future-focused city. At teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, visitors will be immersed into a world that organically changes and evolves through the participation and actions of the people in it, and it is precisely this physical experience that can expand our senses of value.”

Abu Dhabi already boasts impressive cultural offerings, from Louvre Abu Dhabi to the soon-to-open Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. So, teamLab Abu Dhabi aims to sit alongside these cultural landmarks, and add to the creativity of the Saadiyat Cultural District.

A sucker for a good story, if you invite Kohinoor to a gallery, comedy night, new restaurant, hiking trip, cycle ride, pool day or just about any activity, preferably with the promise of wine, she’ll probably say yes – that is if she isn’t busy planning her next adventure.
