Roberto Costa returns to his family’s trattoria roots with his first osteria.
South Kensington has an Italian opening for the diary. Casa Macellaio will welcome diners on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, as Roberto Costa transforms his original Macellaio RC restaurant at 84 Old Brompton Road into his first osteria.
The Genoa-born restaurateur opened Macellaio RC in 2012, building its reputation around carefully sourced beef and cuts from Lake District Farmers. His latest venture draws on an earlier chapter: working as a waiter in his father’s family-run trattoria near Genoa. That experience informs a restaurant centred on the pleasures of gathering around the table, with Mediterranean cooking and a relaxed approach to hospitality.
The menu gives diners plenty of reasons to settle in for several courses. Antipasti include carpaccio paired with Cetara anchovies, beef and bone marrow steak tartare, and cod brandacujun.

For pasta lovers, tagliatelle comes with white ragù, cream and truffle. Seafood spaghetti al cartoccio takes another direction, combining squid, mussels, clams and tiger prawns.
Costa’s background in meat remains evident among the secondi. Lake District beef tagliata alla Bismarck is served with asparagus and egg, while kidney is cooked with butter, sage and white wine. Fish lovers can opt for charcoal-grilled cod, accompanied by lemon, garlic and rosemary.
Dessert keeps things Italian, with tiramisu joined by bianco al basilico, a basil-infused panna cotta that offers a herbal finish to the meal.

Italy also shapes the drinks list. Wines range from Pinot Bianco from Trentino-Alto Adige to Tuscany’s Rosso di Montepulciano and Alta Langa Blanc de Blancs from Piedmont. Those starting with a cocktail can choose a Venetian Negroni, made with Select in place of Campari, alongside a Negroni Sbagliato or Boulevardier.
Roberto Costa said: “We are delighted to begin this new chapter with Casa Macellaio. Hospitality has always been at the heart of our family, built on warmth, generosity and togetherness, and we cannot wait to welcome guests into that same spirit.”
