The British artist will celebrate the sounds and creative communities that shaped her at London’s Southbank Centre.
London’s Meltdown Festival is handing the programme over to FKA twigs. The British singer, dancer and visual artist will curate the Southbank Centre festival from 10 to 20 June 2027, assembling a lineup inspired by the sounds and creative communities that shaped her work. She will also headline the event with a performance of her own.
The Grammy-winning artist becomes Meltdown’s 32nd curator, joining a roll call that includes David Bowie, Patti Smith, Yoko Ono, David Byrne, Grace Jones, Chaka Khan, Little Simz and Harry Styles. Founded in 1993, the festival gives a different artist the opportunity to shape its programme each year, offering audiences a closer look at their influences and interests.
For FKA twigs, those interests stretch well beyond the recording studio. From her 2014 debut album LP1 to Magdalene and Eusexua, her catalogue pairs expressive vocals with experimental production. Dance, choreography and visual storytelling are central to her practice. Her Meltdown Festival curation will connect performers across musical genres and artistic disciplines, drawing on the cultures and collaborations that inform her own approach.
FKA twigs said: “I am honoured and excited to be curating Meltdown at the Southbank Centre. The potent artistic and cultural landscape in London has raised me from Croydon College, to performing in underground cabaret clubs, dancing till sunrise in warehouses on the docks and last year being lucky enough to sing my operatic songs in one of the largest arenas in London. The cultural and artistic clash in this city is like no other. Where cultures, sounds, stories and traditions from all over the world meet, collide and transform one another. I intend to bring you a slice of all that has raised me and continues to inspire me: celebrating the diversity, freedom and creative energy that I believe makes London one of the world’s great capitals of music and the arts.”
