Miokuru in Soho combines British and Japanese influences.
Handroll bars are having a real moment in London. From casual neighbourhood spots to refined dining destinations, the capital’s appetite for Japanese cuisine shows no signs of slowing down. The latest addition to the trend is Miokuru, which opens in Soho on 13 July.
Located on Warwick Street, Miokuru is an intimate restaurant designed to accommodate up to 20 guests. The venue also offers private dining at the counter for up to 10 people, and its bar can be transformed into a cosy speakeasy-style setting for exclusive gatherings.
What makes Miokuru stand out is its thoughtful blend of British ingredients and Japanese culinary traditions. The menu celebrates the best of British produce, with locally sourced ingredients taking centre stage across a range of Japanese-inspired dishes. Guests can expect the freshest fish and seasonal vegetables, showcasing the quality and diversity of Britain’s food landscape.
Japanese techniques are at the heart of the concept. Signature dishes include pressed scallops with seasonal house pickles and seared chalkstream trout sashimi. Handroll highlights range from Cornish white crab with wild garlic mayonnaise to dry-aged beef tartare served with wasabi mustard and fresh herbs.
The British-Japanese partnership continues behind the bar, with a drinks list featuring London-brewed sake and beer alongside creative Japanese-inspired cocktails. The aim is to champion British brewers while complementing the flavours found across the menu.
If Miokuru has whetted your appetite for Japanese food, there are plenty of other handroll hotspots to explore across the capital. The recent openings include Kumouri in Soho’s Denman Street, and the FACT approved Tobi Masa at The Chancery Rosewood in Mayfair. Happy eating.
