The UK is getting ready to welcome a true musical icon. Stevie Wonder has announced a special concert at The O2 in London on Tuesday, 3 November 2026, as part of his Songs In The Key of Life Performances: 50th Anniversary Tour.
Few artists have shaped popular music as profoundly as Stevie Wonder. Born in Michigan in 1950, he signed to Motown’s Tamla label at just 11 years old and scored his first Billboard Hot 100 hit with “Fingertips” while still a teenager. What followed was a remarkable career spanning more than six decades, establishing Wonder as a singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist of extraordinary range.
His catalogue reads like a history of modern soul music. “Superstition” remains instantly recognisable from its opening clavinet riff, while “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours”, “Higher Ground”, “Living for the City”, “You Are the Sunshine of My Life”, “Master Blaster (Jammin’)” and “I Just Called to Say I Love You” have crossed generations. Wonder has won 25 Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1989.
However, this London concert centres on what may be the defining achievement of his career. Released in 1976, Songs In The Key of Life was Wonder at his most ambitious, moving from social commentary and romantic ballads to jazz, gospel, funk and orchestral soul. The record includes “Sir Duke”, “I Wish”, “Isn’t She Lovely”, “As”, “Pastime Paradise”, “Knocks Me Off My Feet” and “Another Star”. It debuted at number one in the United States and remained there for 14 weeks, while reaching number two on the UK Albums Chart. The album was later added to the US National Recording Registry, underlining its lasting cultural significance.
Wonder’s influence extends far beyond his own records. His long list of collaborators includes Paul McCartney for the chart-topping “Ebony and Ivory”, while Dionne Warwick’s “That’s What Friends Are For” united Wonder with Warwick, Elton John and Gladys Knight. He also recorded “Just Good Friends” with Michael Jackson, collaborated with Ariana Grande on “Faith”, and contributed keyboards to The Rolling Stones’ “Sweet Sounds of Heaven”, featuring Lady Gaga.
Wonder last performed in the capital in July 2025, when his Love, Light & Song tour stopped at BST Hyde Park, but the forthcoming show will commemorate 50 years of an album that continues to influence soul, R&B, pop and hip-hop.
