How to obtain a UAE driving license without taking classes

RTA introduces a new rule to convert a valid driving license from your home country into a UAE driving license without taking classes.

Dubai is a city that is known for its luxurious lifestyle and modern infrastructure. And while the public transport system in Dubai is one of the best in the world, a driving license is preferential. However, getting one in Dubai is not an easy feat. It requires a lot of time and effort and can be quite expensive. But did you know you can now avail of a golden chance to get your hands on a UAE driving license without taking classes?

You heard it right. RTA has introduced a new rule that allows individuals who already have a driving license from their home country to convert it to a UAE driving license without undergoing any driving lessons. But to avail this opportunity, you’ll need to follow the below steps:

1. Ensure you have a valid driving license from your home country. The driving license should be in English or Arabic. If it is not in either of these languages, you’ll need to get it translated by an authorised translation service.

2. Other documents required to initiate the conversion process include a copy of your passport with a valid residence visa, a no-objection certificate from your sponsor or employer, a passport-sized photograph, and a completed application form.

3. After submission, you will be required to pass an eye test and pay the required fees.

4. You will then have to sit for your theory and road test. Upon clearing both, you will receive your UAE driving license within a few days. However, if you fail either of the tests, you will be required to enroll in regular classes if you still wish to obtain a UAE driving license.

This service is only available to UAE residents holding a valid driving license from their home country. Residents of Estonia, Albania, Portugal, China, Hungary, Greece, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Slovak, Slovenia, Serbia, Cyprus, Latvia, Luxembourg, Lithuania, Malta, Iceland, Montenegro, United States of America, France, Japan, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Ireland, Spain, Norway, New Zealand, Romania, Singapore, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Denmark, Austria, Finland, United Kingdom, Turkey, Canada, Poland, South Africa, and Australia can directly swap their valid foreign driving license for a UAE driving license.

Happy driving.
