Islamic New Year 2023: A three-day weekend is coming

The next public holiday takes place on 21 July.

Get ready for some good news because yet another public holiday is just around the corner – and it comes with a long weekend. The UAE has announced that Friday, 21 July, will be a holiday for everyone across the country.

What’s this holiday for? Well, the Islamic New Year begins next week and the UAE authorities thought it was best to give Friday as a holiday. So people can enjoy a three-day break. Initially, it seemed like only the public sector were getting the day off, but now it has been confirmed that the private sector will also have a day off for Islamic New Year.

So if you’ve been daydreaming about a quick getaway, next week is your golden ticket to make it happen. Opt for an ultimate staycation that’ll leave you feeling all zen and rejuvenated or go all out and embark on an epic adventure. There are plenty of visa-free destinations you can head to for a quick change of environment. The time for your dream escape is just around the bend.

And while most of the long weekends and public holidays for the year are already accounted for, there are still a couple more ahead. The birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is on 27 September. It falls right in the middle of the week, giving you the perfect excuse for a mid-week break. As December rolls around, get ready for yet another long weekend. Friday, 1 December marks Commemoration Day to pay our respects to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the UAE. This will be followed by 2 December, the UAE National Day and a three-day break.

So mark your calendars, gather your friends and family, and get ready for a holiday.
