UAE public holidays for the rest of 2022

Here are the dates to add to your diary.

Getting back to work after a long weekend can feel like a Herculean task. So, whether you’re trying to remember your passwords or how the coffee machine works, we are here with some good news: the next UAE public holidays are not too far away.

The UAE Cabinet announced the public holidays for 2022 for the public and private sector, so you can jot these down in your diary and start planning your time off.

Next up is The Islamic New Year, also called Hijri New Year, which begins on the first of day of the month of Muharram. The date for this is likely to land on Saturday 30 July, and it could turn into a three-day weekend with Friday 29 July or Monday 1 August becoming a public holiday.

The next big UAE public holiday is Al-Mawlid Al-Nabawi. This is the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and is an annual public holiday that is likely to begin on the evening of Friday 7 October and end on the evening of Saturday 8 October.

Commemoration Day, previously known as Martyr’s Day, recognises the sacrifices of Emiratis who sacrificed their lives in civil, military and humanitarian services. The public holiday falls on Thursday 1 December. Plus, UAE National Day falls next to it on Friday 1 December and Saturday 3 December. It is expected that extra holidays will be announced closer to the time, potentially creating a three or four-day long weekend.
