The acclaimed Japanese restaurant adds Oman’s coastline to its collection of seasonal destinations.
Zuma has found a new setting for its sushi, robata grills and lively evenings. The FACT award-winning Japanese restaurant has opened a seasonal pop-up at W Muscat, pairing its izakaya-inspired menu with views across the Gulf of Oman.
Co-founded by Rainer Becker and Arjun Waney in London in 2002, Zuma has grown from its Knightsbridge home into a global dining name. Azumi’s Middle Eastern story includes Dubai, which opened in 2008, Abu Dhabi, which followed in 2014 and Riyadh, which opened in 2024. For FACT readers, there is another reason the name resonates: Zuma is the most awarded restaurant in FACT Dining Awards history.
Zuma’s superb seasonal pop-ups have become a highlight of its international portfolio, taking the concept to destinations including Ras Al Khaimah and Gstaad, alongside the Alpine surroundings of Kitzbühel and summer addresses in Ibiza, Mykonos and Capri.

At W Muscat, on the Shatti Al Qurum beachfront, the pop-up accommodates up to 200 guests. A terrace fitted with bespoke Zuma furnishings makes the most of uninterrupted sea views, creating a setting for early cocktails and leisurely dinners. The bar is central to the experience, with signature drinks accompanying the transition from late afternoon into evening.
The food follows the three-kitchen format that defines Zuma: the main kitchen, sushi counter and robata grill. Designed for sharing, the menu allows diners to build a meal around different techniques and textures. Robata favourites include spicy beef tenderloin with sesame, red chilli and sweet soy, while the sushi selection features salmon aburi with mentaiko sauce and ikura. Classics from the main kitchen complete the offering.
David Smyczek, Regional Managing Director at Zuma, said: “Following the success of our seasonal pop-ups in Ras Al Khaimah and Gstaad, we are excited to bring Zuma to Oman. Muscat has all the ingredients for something special: beautiful sea views, striking sunsets and a setting made for long evenings over great food and cocktails. We look forward to adding Muscat to our line-up this season and welcoming guests to experience Zuma in a new coastal setting for this exclusive seasonal pop-up.”
For diners already familiar with the brand, Zuma Muscat offers a fresh backdrop for established favourites. For those discovering Zuma for the first time, the combination of Japanese cooking, cocktails and a waterfront terrace provides an introduction to a restaurant with considerable regional pedigree.
