A steak-centric theme night at the world’s tallest five-star hotel

Sponsored: Prime68’s monthly Beef & Burgundy night is the place to be on the first Wednesday of the month.

Climbing high on a Wednesday, we try out the monthly Beef & Burgundy promotion at Prime68 on the 68th floor of JW Marriot Marquis Dubai. Arriving at the pinnacle of the tallest five-star hotel in the world, we are greeted by the sounds of mellow music, chattering and happy diners. We immediately feel like we’ve left our worries of the week at the door as we begin our weekend early.

We walk over to our corner table, which feels like the best seats in the house with a panoramic view overlooking the city. We spend at least fifteen minutes taking it all in and spotting the Dubai landmarks. Our bubbly waiter advises us straight away of the concept and what to expect of the night.

Beef & Burgundy

Got a special date, a celebration or want quality meats and wine? Beef & Burgundy needs to make the cut (pun intended). A visit to Beef & Burgundy takes its guests through a five-course prime beef and informative grape pairing evening for just AED 596. Hosted every first Wednesday of the month at JW Marriot Marquis – so get booking early.

Prime68, the recent award winner for ‘favourite steakhouse’ at the FACT Dining Awards Dubai 2021, is known for its carefully selected produce with the finest cuts of beef, from Wagyu to US prime beef. The menu features the finest beef from all over the globe and diners can expect to start the five-course menu with heirloom gazpacho, smoked heirloom tomatoes and grilled sourdough. This is paired with a 2015 Imperial Brut Vintage, Gramona.

Beef & Burgundy

Our second course is pulpo a la gallege, romesco, crispy potatoes, smoked paprika oil paired with Godello, Pagos del Galir 2019. We pause and the bartender comes over to advise us on why the chosen wines were picked for their pairing.

After a short break, we move on to bacalao con berenjena, burnt aubergine, brandade and olives paired with a Portuguese grape, Esporao Reserva, DOC Alentejo 2019 – our favourite pairing. Saving the best until last, the menu’s highlight was the carne asada, tximitxurri, excalivada and Bodegas la Horra Corimbo 2016.

The grand finale is the burnt basque cheesecake, cream cheese and mixed berries, paired with a ten year old Tawny, Taylor’s. We are not usually a fan of dessert grape. However, the Tawny Taylor’s was very smooth and sweet, which worked perfectly with the dessert. The dessert itself was light and the small portion size is the perfect way to end the five-course meal.

Beef & Burgundy

Prime68 is modern and light in colour with soft furnishings and bold dark furniture – it has a cosy and mysterious feel while remaining elegant and chic.

Steak nights out can often pull on your wallet strings, but the monthly Beef & Burgundy evening offers a reasonable price and a high standard of service. The verdict, fresh ingredients, hearty food –though perfect size plates, we felt like we completed a grape tasting course – the team were highly clued up on each grape and the reasoning for the pairing.

The next Beef & Burgundy Night at Prime68 will be held on Wednesday, 1 December, with a unique festive twist.
