FACT First Look: Ba:TE by Wawa Dining

The exciting new Japanese restaurant opens in Abu Dhabi’s Anantara Eastern Mangroves.

Ba:TE by Wawa Dining brings a touch of Japan to Abu Dhabi. Located in Anantara Eastern Mangroves Abu Dhabi Hotel, the new restaurant prides itself on creating food inspired by nature, which is served in a stylish, sophisticated setting. As we got to take a first look inside the new venue, here’s what to expect from the restaurant.

Ba:TE by Wawa Dining’s venue is inspired by Japan, as there is calligraphy on the walls, chōchin-like lanterns and a karaha fu-styled curved roof. The restaurant will also be home to JUMAK Bar, which is inspired by traditional Yangban social clubs that showcased art, music and dance. Yangbans were once popular with Korea’s ruling class, attracting aristocrats, civil servants and military officers who know how to appreciate arts in life. JUMAK Bar will be a fun-filled space with entertainment aspects where guests can enjoy food and drink in a relaxed space with bar seating, high tables and high stools.

At the heart of Ba:TE’s menu are Far Eastern traditions that underline natural ingredients and authentic Japanese cuisine touched by Peruvian and Korean inspiration. Culinary Director and Executive Chef, Eric Jung, brings his expertise and experience to the new venture. We’re expecting great things, as he is the former Head Chef at COYA Dubai, a winner of multiple awards including one Toque at Gault&Millau, World’s 50 Best and Michelin recognition. So far, we know that the dishes range from fresh sashimi to Sotbab, a healthy steamed rice cooked in a clay pot. Plus, that there are plenty of contemporary Japanese items and a signature dessert.
